HPS's PRINCIPAL & PARTNERS
Founder and Principal of the firm, Ms. Mahood is a qualified Architectural Historian under 36 CFR 61 and has over 25 years experience in historic preservation, architecture and architectural history. Her firm is flexible to work alone on projects of varying sizes, as well as in partnership with other professional architects, engineers, conservators, and preservation contractors to assure the smooth, effective completion of quality preservation projects.
Ms. Mahood's professional background includes experience in private architectural practices in Washington and Maryland, as well as nearly twelve years with the Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) Maryland's State Historic Preservation Office. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University in Housing & Design, (which landed great curiosity to better understand 'What has come before?' ) She completed a Master of Architectural History degree from the University of Virginia's School of Architecture, and worked in both the private and public sectors before beginning her private practice in 2001. Fascinated with Asian art, architecture and philosophy as an interest for many years, Ms. Mahood undertook a second Masters in Oriental Medicine from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) in 2006. Today she enjoys practicing in both fields and is inspired by their alignment and the way they inform each other on a daily basis.
